Statement on The Crimson’s Coverage of Student Protests
In solidarity with Harvard College Act on a Dream’s demands, we will not give comment on our campaign to The Crimson until they critically reevaluate and change the policy that requires them to call ICE for comment. ICE is an organization that employs fear tactics at the behest of the President’s divisive and hateful immigration initiatives. They have no qualms about arresting activists who speak out against them.
We act alongside many other student organizations in this boycott; we hope that The Crimson will hear this message and prioritize the safety of students and their families rather than granting even more space for an oppressive federal agency to spread its dangerous rhetoric in the media.
While we respect journalistic ethics and hold ourselves to high journalistic standards, we think that it is critically important for the Crimson to recognize the responsibility it has as a student organization to protect its peers and the greater university community.
We stand in solidarity with Act on a Dream and immigrants in the Harvard community and beyond.
